My journey.

A Lifelong Advocate for Reading

With 22 years of educational experience, the last 13 years implementing The Dubard Association Method ®, I am a certified academic language therapist (CALT) committed to helping struggling readers thrive. I embarked on my teaching journey in 2001 at The June Shelton School. My early years were dedicated to the Montessori method, guiding young minds in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. The world of language therapy beckoned, and I heeded its call, deepening my commitment to children grappling with reading challenges.

In pursuit of personal and professional growth, I found myself teaching at an orphanage in Kitale, Kenya from 2007 to 2008. The diverse tapestry of perspectives and experiences enriched my teaching philosophy and techniques.

On the academic front, I pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching from Dallas Baptist University. My passion for reading therapy led me to specialize further, acquiring certifications in The Association Method ® from the Dubard School at The University of Mississippi and later becoming a certified academic language therapist (CALT) from the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA).

Recently, my personal journey steered me and my family (husband, 10 and 7 year old boys, three dogs) to Louisville, Colorado. Colorado is a place we’ve admired over seven summer visits, and now, with its promise of all-season adventures and proximity to the majestic mountains, we're thrilled to make it our home.

The Essence of My Passion

What truly drives me is the transformation I’ve witnessed in my students. I've seen children, once cocooned in shyness and weighed down by defeat, blossom into learners radiating confidence and joy, all thanks to tailored reading therapy. Reading isn't simply a subject; it's the bedrock of all education. Research consistently underlines the importance of spotting potential reading challenges before the conclusion of first grade. Early identification is crucial to establishing the groundwork for a child's academic successes in the future. While early intervention is pivotal, I believe it's never too late to gain the tools to become a reader.

Having served The Shelton School since 2001, I've been privileged to be part of countless success stories. My dream now extends to offering reading therapy beyond the DFW region, ensuring every child has the chance to discover the joy of reading.
